Hillbilly wisdom: We can not afford not to build it.
Large tracts of arid land New Mexico, Arizona,
Texas, Nevada owned by federal government. Both parties suggested sales of this land for development
in effort to reduce housing cost. Why not use this land to save the taxpayers
money, create jobs, provide security for legislators- protected physically from exterior and internal
enemies or undue influence as our representatives do their work. Win, win situation.
Envision a campus complex- no room for consultants + high wall for security- a green zone, no off
campus living + limited access like embassy building- work camp for congress persons only
(Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday on with four days off). Travel time paid for by individual states
preferably chartered bus + accountability for work- bullet points on daily progress = effective and
efficient government workers committed to the betterment of the people.
Incentives: Can’t leave until you’re finished. But penalties after day two (negotiable) days. Pay will be
eliminated if scheduled work is uncompleted on day three.
Optional full time residency is available if you want to work on your own. Optional work does not
accumulate paid time off. It is optional- unpaid public service. Public service is not about becoming a
wealthy person on the public’s dime.
This is harsh! If you don’t work you don’t eat. These elected officials are responsible, educated adults
who paid for the privilege of running for office. They are leading by example. There is not a buyout
option but if it helps their self image, they can run for office once more. A quiet environmental setting ,
secure , without distraction filled with like minded individuals focused on the most pressing issues and
getting them fixed. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
Three meals and a cot. When these officials go home and tell about their sacrifices, they will at least be
closer to the truth. Even money says this will not happen. This plan could also work for the states (2.4
million legislators expenses 2024 Arkansas). If you aim low, you will hit low. One party rule leaves
only one party to blame for problem or lack of a solution. We the people have expectations and the
work done by our representatives should be controlled by the people.
