Hillbilly version: you never know who you are talking to. This story starts with a notification that your direct deposit will be moved to your new bank per your instructions. This is the first you have heard of this and they forgot to tell you the bank to which it is now going. The actual correction took a less than a minute. But first you have to prove who you are. Drivers license will suffice. Of course, you will need all financial (banking) information.

But don’t think that you are entitled to information about the account to which your funds were being misdirected. All you get was it was a different bank and it was done online. So you call the fraud hotlink. Do you know who did this? What account was it sent to? Do you want to file a report? To this question I had an answer.

Why else would I be calling you? Never answer a question with a question. Doing so seems to somehow insult the agent. Well, we will file a report. Will I be notified or contacted ? And it gets better. No, you can not access this information.

And it gets even better: I’m not talking to a government employee. My confidential information is being collected by a third party. Outsourcing and collecting information that deals with governmental checks. I should not have been surprised but I was. There is no avenue to follow up, to even know if anything is being done. We are laying off government employees and outsourcing jobs. Hope you feel better about this than I do.

All is not negative. The statement or notification came from a non governmental agency also. Maybe, this century is just run differently. Still, this type of organizational structure gives me reason to be concerned. After all it is my information floating around and someone is using my name for their benefit.

One additional bit of information: I had to report someone filed bogus medical claims in June. Have not heard anything about that either. How can my accounts be charged or changed by others when I have to prove who I am. Security after the fact is better than nothing???
