Hillbilly wisdom: Drilling for energy is not the same as producing more energy. A producing well will not impact the cost or availability of energy to the American consumer if it is capped. More energy available could and probably does reduce the profit margin for energy companies. There is no incentive to produce more. Energy refinement requires transportation to and from the refineries which have scaled back from over 250 nationwide to under 150 units. There is also a considerable concentration of the physical plants which makes the available energy highly dependent upon weather conditions. Bad weather means higher prices. Price gouging.
The past administration shut down pipeline jobs that would have increased transportation and reduced cost while maintaining safety over rail and road. These jobs have not been returned. Better yet, build refineries nearer the production fields. More refineries would lessen the effects of weather interruptions upon availability of energy, reduce transportation cost and reduce national security concerns.
Drill baby drill is an excellent political rally cry. Tax breaks are a subsidy for major corporations without accountability to the population. Because of profitability margins, the major recipients of tax breaks are the wealthy. Those plants which have been closed need to be reopened and made fully functional. When private enterprise cannot provide the basics, then and only then, the role of government should increase. Competition is good for business and if business will not compete within the business world then the government’s role should not be to subsidize the business but provide competition with said businesses. We are doing it for personal safety through increased law enforcement within our cities.
Not for sole reason of lower cost but for national security reasons. There should not be concern over interruptions or restrictions on energy placed upon the citizens or the United States national interest. United being the key word. What is best for the United States should be the driving factor. Stimulation of the economy to the level of competitiveness both within the country and beyond our borders can only be good for us. More or less incentives that do not better the situation are a failed approach. Try something different. To depend upon the (for-profit) leaders that consider profits over national interest to suddenly change is stupid.
