Hillbilly version: In an impromptu interview Mike Johnson said he has not lost control of the United States House of Representatives. It is refreshing for him to take responsibility.
It is also a position that I have continuously pointed out as this year 2025 has progressed.
Under Speaker Johnson’s control of the United States House of Representatives, house members will have served only135 days in session in contrast to 175 days for the Senate. Clearly under Johnson’s leadership the House does not waste the taxpayers money being in session (dealing with things like affordability or swearing in elected officials of the wrong political party). And of course, the Representatives did not miss a single paycheck during the government shutdown.
Votes on unimportant issues like the release of Epstein Files Transparency Act, which passed both houses with only one negative vote and was forced by a discharge petition of the members of the houses (218 votes to bring a motion to a vote). This clearly brings into question Speaker Johnson’s “control” but more importantly begs the question: why would the speaker avoid the vote when everyone from both sides of the aisle wants the same thing?
Oh! Maybe, Congress had to pass a clear continuing resolution (CR) that increased government spending over a trillion dollars.
