Hillbilly version: the United States has deployed a U.S. Navy Super carrier into water claimed by China. Is this even true? Moot point! The reason given is to keep waters free to commerce in alignment with international law. This is my point. When there are benefits from international law, The United States is quick to point to the law. When the law is not in alignment with the foreign policies, the law is ignored. The hypocrisy is astounding. Therein lies the fake news, we claim moral superiority and lose our morality when it benefits US.
The present administration keeps upping the ante. At least daily, new irregularities are suggested or implemented. Greenland is an example. The world, which includes the United States, instead of acting against actions taken in Venezuela is buying into possible military action against Greenland. Under existing treaties we could expand our military presence if defense was the reason. A military attack would be an attack against a NATO ally. How is attacking an ally different from attacking a vulnerable country? The answer is we are on the same team. Wake up! There is not a team in a top down organization. Whatever the top wants, the top gets. All other view points are moot.
Let me offer this: If we as Americans do not stop actions taken by our executive branch now, then we are effectively killing our democracy. Will there be enough of our democracy left to save after the midterm elections- assuming we have midterm elections?
Back in the day and this is very reveling, both to my nativity and age, we had a civics class. This was middle school, seventh grade to be exact. Our teacher pointed out that Americans are better off than other countries. We have a choice when we vote. There is a choice. Other countries have elections but there is only one candidate on the ballot.
Not being very bright as to the ways of politics and more inclined to a math perspective, I asked how much better off are we? Would we be even better off if we had five candidates? How does 1, 2, or 5 candidates improve our country if they all work for the same people? Our representatives need to stand up and do their job before it is too late. No country, presently, can stand before the United States military. Our democracy is safe from external enemies. The question is: will our representatives allow the present administration to destroy our system. Will the checks and balances put in place survive the internal enemy?
