Hillbilly wisdom: Not everyone knows your worth particularly when one gets outside of normal places. The rules change from one culture to another. It is sometimes surprising when one encounters different norms. Example: Diablo, names changed to protect innocent, is a Chihuahua who does not have a green card but the locals recognize him as one of the crowd since he is a long time companion of Bill, a respected member of the community. Rarely, do you see one without the other. Diablo may be short but he does not know it. In a yard full of hunting dogs, he rules supreme. It is his kingdom. On a trip to get a load of hay for the cattle Diablo had a learning experience. After the hay was loaded Bill and Diablo departed the truck to visit. The pace is not fast where we live. Diablo immediately set out to explore the territory. Bill joined myself in the house for beverages. It only took about two minutes for the calm to explode. There was a bloodcurdling scream and a equally loud whelp. My knowledge of what had happened did not stop Bill from an immediate and rapid departure from the house- the safety of Diablo being in question. Of course I followed along just not as fast. Diablo was loaded back into the truck with his approval. Bill did not find the situation humorous. What is that? That is Killer. He doesn’t have a tail. He doesn’t need one. His head is huge. Yep. Killer looks more like a lion than a cat.!

He can’t help how he looks and before you state the obvious, he spends his day looking for something to fight. Diablo never had a chance. Different territories have different rules. You may be a king at your house but not necessarily at all houses.

Killer was not bothering Diablo until Diablo showed up on Killer’s porch. In defense of Killer, he did not pursue Diablo once he left the porch. He laid back down. His reign was defended. He looked rather smug.

Only Diablo’s pride was hurt. He later ventured from the truck but he did not go anywhere near Killer’s porch.
