Hillbilly wisdom: The only way to get power from those that have it, is pry it from their cold dead fingers. This is an extremely narrow view of mankind. And it is not true all the time. One can point to various events in history where those that had power voluntarily gave up power. An example might be the Magna Carta, an agreement between the king and the barons drafted by the church to bring peace without war. Both sides eventually broke the agreement and the Baron’s War followed.
The French had a slightly different approach- the guillotine and its use during the Reign of Terror. Extreme examples of power taken from the holders of power.
Congressional power has been conceded to the executive branch during the Iranian conflict. They can get it back with a simple vote. There is a group, a subset, within our society that believes it does not matter what Congress does in regard to the Iranian situation because Trump will do whatever he wants. This group points to the Iranian military exercise as proof of Trump’s disregard for public opinion or his advisors. His vice president initially voiced concern against United States involvement.
How do you get out of something that perhaps you should not have started in the first place? Which is a round-about-way of saying has the war proven to be wrong or are we considering stopping the war because of the collateral damages it has caused. Are we doing right for the wrong reasons? The world has suffered because of actions taken by Israel and the United States against Iran. The results are not what was expected. Right is a judgmental decision but if you want peace you have to stop fighting.
