Netanyahu and Trump

Hillbilly wisdom: There are some who believe Netanyahu will charged and possibly convicted as a a war criminal if peace comes to the Middle East. This assumes he would lose an election and then be subject to prosecution in the International Court system.

Trump has voiced concerns about being impeached if the Republican lose the midterms elections. According to Trump’s view, he is safe as long as the Republican party maintains control. His actions are only illegal if his party does not control the chambers of Congress. Trump says the system is flawed. The system would deliver different results according to the individual members and their association with a political party. There is no call from Trump to fix this biased situation. He wishes to keep the party in control so he can stay in power.

Netanyahu and Trump are two peas in a pod. Both hold powerful positions within their respective governments but have done questionable things. They are supported by their parties even when their actions do not always fall within the legal bounds set by the international communities. Each is safe because they are protected by their respective coalitions/ parties. The problem is the support structure of both is beginning to crack.

Example: There is not a large Republican majority in Congress. Tom Cotton, Arkansas Senator and chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, has concerns about the Iranian deal. This is paramount. Cotton is one of the staunchest supporters of Trump and Trump’s policies. For him to even suggest that there are concerns is mind blowing. What information does he have that would cause concerns? Concerns about peace and stability within the Middle East? Cotton has never failed to vote party line.

Bottom line: the two peas in the pod are different. Netanyahu needs the war so there is not an election. Trump needs peace to get the economy back on track before the election. Israel and the United States jointly started this military action. Something has to give.
