Hillbilly wisdom: the senatorial race in Arkansas must be closer than I thought. Arkansas’s last election saw the state go 65% Republican. I concluded earlier that the next senator from Arkansas would be the current senator, Tom Cotton. How can the Democrats even think there is a race? Yet, the negative advertising has started. We Arkansans are particularly proud of our name calling and back stabbing. What are the chances that a democratic candidate can win? More than zero but not good.
Let me suggest to the challenger: run on the incumbent’s record. Point to the facts: Arkansas is leading the nation in Chapter 12 farm bankruptcies. Healthcare premiums are up. An agricultural state with food insecurities. The present senator promotes blowing up boats in the Caribbean without evidence. Supports war in Iran without Congressional approval. Is against inflation but does not understand that the war is increasing inflation here. Approves tariffs regardless of the consequences to local trade. Cotton does not care because Arkansas is RED. His sins do not matter. He will be forgiven. I stick with my earlier prediction- Republican victory.
The Republicans think the race is close enough to justify attacking the democratic candidate. Rumor has it she is a communist. Now that’s novel. Who knew? She’s also a female and a democrat. Better to talk about personal stuff than Cotton’s record. Yet, Hallie Shoffner might do better for the people of Arkansas. Cotton has had two terms and his record speaks for itself. There is a third candidate, Libertarian Jeff Wadlin. Vote November 3, 2026.
