Cotton or Shoffner

Hillbilly wisdom: congratulations have already been extended to the Cotton camp for his election victory in the November. “Land sakes alive” as momma would say, the latest polls would have us believe the race is within two percentage points. Cotton knows. But you still have to work the public.

Arkansans are not as stupid as everyone thinks we are. Cotton beat a two term Senator twelve years ago to get his seat in the Senate. Upsets can happen. He is making more appearances throughout the state. The campaign’s goal is to divert attention away from his inadequacies. But he knows. The RNC knows. The money has arrived and the negative comments against his opponent have started. The show has started.

We are lucky to have his selfless dedication, endless knowledge, and management skills working for us everyday. The Senate scheduled 179 days and ended up working 202 last year. Dedication is job one and Arkansas happens every day (202/365=55%!!). Cotton would do more but you know the other senators have scheduling conflicts. The Senate has targeted an increased schedule for 2026. They delayed the start of the August recess to clear the backlog. Everything important to the Republicans is under control. There was the last minute government funding. Government is funded until December. 35 days are tentatively scheduled between now and the end of the year. September, October, November, and December: four months and 35 days are tentatively scheduled.

Don’t ask about the effect of tariffs on the local farmers. That’s a very sensitive and very scary issue. The farmers supported Cotton in his previous campaigns. When the Senator loses support by undercutting his big contributors’ interest, the rest of us need not worry about “does he have our back?”. We know. We go to the store every week!

The shoe is on the other foot. Let us think. Are we better off after two terms than we were before Cottons’ election?

Cotton is in lock step with President Trump. If they were any closer, they would be joined at the hip. He has yet to vote against anything Trump desires. His support extends to the tariffs, bombing in the Caribbean, and the war in Iran. He did state he has “some concern” about the war. Doesn’t matter! Arkansas is red as any state and Cotton will prevail.
