Resurgence of the Southern Political Machine

Hillbilly wisdom: the following statement was submitted as a topic of relevance to be considered by the voters of Arkansas. Please feel free to offer other points in support or against this proposition.

With the end of reconstruction following the Civil War, the South was largely governed by “Good ole white boy political machines”. This arrangement was supported in part by masked vigilantly groups.

Notorious among these one party machines were governors George Wallace in Alabama, Huey Long in Louisiana, and Orval Faubus in Arkansas.

The Arkansas governor made national news standing in the entrance of Central High School in Little Rock in support of racial segregation to block nine minority children from attending the all white public school .

While the above noted machines were political powers in their day, the present day Arkansas political machine makes those cited above look like rank amateurs.

The present Arkansas state senate is 77% and the house of representatives is 79% Republicans. All (7) Arkansas state constitutional officers are Republican including the Governor; and the Governor’s awesome power of political appointment.

As for the Arkansas Supreme Court, the ultimate rejection of the citizen’s initiated “Direct democracy constitutional amendment” from the November ballot by the Court leaves little doubt as to their partisanship.

There is an immediate opportunity for the people of Arkansas to express their disappointment with our current State government.

VOTE NO on all three Arkansas’ legislature proposed constitutional amendments.

Send a message to Little Rock that “we can read above an eighth grade level” and “we do want to know how the sausage is made”!!
