Congressional integrity

Hillbilly wisdom: Last week I posed the question “why does Congress allow this little conflict to continue?”. The prevalent answer was “they get paid”. Devil’s advocate: there needs to be something that holds the Congress accountable for their actions or lack thereof.

Two points Article 1, sec6 “Congress will receive compensation”. And 27th Amendment no law varying compensation can take effect until intervening election…has occurred. The law,set by the Congressional members currently blocks reductions of their pay for poor performance. Further, it is not likely they will pass any law restricting their pay.

Removal from office is an option for improving Congressional integrity. This remedy has been used individually for questionable activities but not in mass. The only current remedy against large numbers of congressional members guilty of poor performance is the election process. Vote against low or poor performers and hope their removal wakes everyone else up. Integrity, like ethics, cannot be taught but it can be influenced.
