Hillbilly wisdom: it is after Labor Day. Now until election day we as Arkansans can expect the world. Every politician has a plan, a picture, a vision, or a dream about how the world should look and how they are the best suited to bring that vision to you. Don’t complicate the situation by asking for details. All you have to do is vote for them. Eden is at hand. Heaven on earth. No cost to you. You cannot lose. These are sound bites.

There will be a little sacrifice on your part but heaven awaits. IF only you trust. Vote for me! Do not be swayed by the lies my opponent is spreading. My opponent and his party are full of false promises.

The most accurate standard of a politician is the voting record of the incumbent. Politicians want to tell you about polls. In elections past, the candidates presented a platform. Now there are sound bites. Continuous sound bites bought and paid for by the honest politicians or their equally honest super pacts. It is a grossly over simplified opinion but each candidate should be running on the voting record of the incumbent. If you are in office, point to your record and offer more of the same. It you are not in office, point to the record of the incumbent and offer changes.

Changes need not be a race in the opposite direction. Changes can be a changing of the guard. Most of the time a slight course correction is all that is needed or a better job of guiding the ship. Don’t fix it if it is working. The time needed to make the changes needed, in most cases, is less than two terms. If after two terms more changes are needed, then it might be necessary to consider different leadership.
