International Criminal Court

Hillbilly wisdom: as a broad generation, criminals do not like the legal system. First there are the police and then there are the courts. In late 2025 the Trump administration pressured the ICC (international Criminal Court) “threatened sanctions unless the court pledged immunity for top US officials and dropped ongoing cases” Reuters. Reuters reported that Washington feared prosecution of Trump at the termination of his term in 2029. Trump’s demands were not meet.

Trump during his address to the United Nations is pressuring the members (125 nations ) to drop from the Rome Statue. What could be the problem? The Trump administration argues the court has no jurisdiction over his actions because the United States never agreed to the Rome Statue. The same jurisdictional argument applies to Netanyahu. How convenient. International law prevails when it coincides with our point of view but does not apply when it goes against our policies.

125 nations joined the Rome Statue and is a majority of the nations on the planet. Democracy teaches us that majority rules. The majority of nations want law and order, stability, and protection from bad characters. Without laws and equal enforcement of laws “might makes right” would prevail. The strong would prey upon the weak.

Defunding the police within the United States meet with resistance from the majority of Americans. The argument was without police, crime would increase. Basically this is what the Rome Statue allows. There are rules which govern and they must apply across the board. No one is above the law. What could be the problem?
