Hillbilly wisdom; a mistake takes three times the amount of time (plus materials) to correct than it would have taken to do the job correctly the first time. In the blue collar trades that means “measure twice and cut once”. In other businesses it is important to think about the plan before you implement the plan. This type of approach might help the operation of the government. Some countries have as much as 5 years of planning in regard to where they are going with their policies. Others appear to fly by the seat of their britches. There is a place for spontaneity in personal relationships but impulsive actions in business and government can have detrimental effects.
Government is not in the business of making a profit. Rather, government’s role is to provide services- services to the public. This does not mean cost containment is not involved. Everything has a cost and must be accounted for. Individuals must live within their means and the government can better serve the citizens if they can reduce or eliminate the interest element from their budget. The resources available can only be spent once. Anything that reduces the amount of dollars available to fulfill the services to the public will reduce the government’s services. Congress needs to take control of government. Spending is not of hand and it will take a considerable amount of time to correct but the job is not over. Mistakes must be corrected.
