Hillbilly wisdom: we have made our bed now we get to lie in it. Many will go through a “period of remorse” following the tally of the votes. Others will breathe a “sigh of relief”, sightly short of getting down on the knees and phrasing the almighty. We are a nation of individuals that have stood the test of time. The challenges we face are not new nor will they ever be finished. The spectrum of emotions created by the election will cause division among our citizens. The blending of differences means all of the people will not be happy all of the time. Short of criminal activity we are stuck/blessed with our choices until the next time we vote.
The final tally will probably not be known for a while. There are large numbers to count and it will take time. The results will be challenged; recounts demanded; possible protests; and then status quo. The election process will not be completed until January when the elected take their positions. From November until January the old guard still controls policy and daily decisions.
Will graft and corruption increase or magically go away. The lame ducks usually rush to fill their pockets instead of going quietly into the night. The voters have spoken and the nation-wide election bill is estimated at 9.8 billion. Almost 10 billion spent on a midterm and now we must trust those in office to do the right thing.
