The Hog Hunt

Hillbilly wisdom: The hog will eventually run itself into a position where it cannot escape. The hog will first attempt to outrun, it will double back or it will hide. Only when all other options have been exercised and the animal is trapped, the animal will turn and fight. It will turn and fight. Hogs are not helpless. Their legs are short. They are very compact and very fast particularly in close quarters.

Plus they have tusks. There tusk look similar to those on elephants and they are razor sharp.

It is necessary to provide the catch dogs with vests for self protection. Different parts of the country hunt hogs differently. Usually there are two types of dogs. The catch and the chaser dog. The chaser is just what the name says. The chaser is responsible for trapping the hog. This is called baying the hog. The chaser who makes the mistake of getting to close usually dies. When the animal is bayed the catch dog will hold the hog until either the hog is tied or killed and this is called sport. It is a method used by those who cannot afford to rent a helicopter and hunt safety from above. There is an element of power, control, and success in dominating something not helpless but something not equipped to battle superior forces.

Everyone does not agree that this is sport. To some, it seems cruel and inhumane. My question is how is this different than one human exploiting their advantages over another. Is this why we will always have wars? To sell arms, we cannot have peace. There is not enough profit in peace to give it any real consideration. Just remember, when the animal is ultimately trapped, it will attack. This theory applies to both international and domestic policy. Thus far, we have failed to exhibit any rational thought in regard to others.

If the hog takes the hunters by surprise, getting a dog ripped apart is a cheap lesson. You can sacrifice a few dogs, it is after all just a sport.
