Hillbilly wisdom: the level of involvement of the parent is considered essential to the outcome of the student. There are a lot of different ways the parent shows the child what is expected. They vary from a switch applied to the backside, this usually comes from older people who refer to back in the day, to talking to the child and explaining the “whats and whys” of a particular approach. Both extremes work to a degree. What is common in both extremes is the parent is partially to blame for the final adjustment level of the child or to be congratulated if the child finally performs well (grows up). And then, there is the child who is just bad- the devil’s seed, the one one beyond hope. The parent is not liable. The parent did the best they could. Nothing could be done.

This is an apples and oranges comparison and grossly over simplified but it is interesting that after a 100 days of ongoing military action, our president comes to the Congress with a two page memorandum and wishes Congress to rubber stamp his actions. To bail him and his policies out of the place where he finds himself because of decisions made without any consultation with anyone. Not unlike the parent who gets the call to come down to the jail and get the young adult who finds themselves in trouble. The parent will tell you, they just can’t believe their child would do such a thing and they proceed to the best of their abilities to help their child. To say that president Trump’s actions where not on display is unfair and dishonest. The vote as late as last week was to allow the president full reign over the war which some believe is the duty of Congress. Congress cannot place all the blame on the president nor can they say they did not know. What is evident is Congress did not show the appropriate level of expectations if they wanted to stop the military actions in the Middle East. This is a hard sell. Even now Congress will not stop the executive branch’s actions. Maybe they do not care. They are too busy. Perhaps another investigation is called for. As voters in the United States we cannot do Congress’s job but as voters we are allowed expectations and we can do something about our representatives future role in the decision making process.
